Some footage surfaced today of a group of Senators riding in an Uber bashing a member of their coaching staff and joking about how bad the teams penalty kill was. I guess things had just been too quiet in Ottawa and it was about time someone started stirring the pot again.
It's pretty clear that the players have no idea that they are being recorded and I think it's deplorable that this Uber driver would share the video taken without their knowledge. I really believe the players were just blowing off some steam and as far as they were concerned it was just a conversation between friends. With that said they were pretty harsh on their special teams coach Marty Raymond and obviously things are not well in Ottawa.
I'll be interested to see if any of these player are disciplined or possibly even moved. I have a hard time determining who all the players are but, the first tweet claims that it is Chris Wideman, Matt Duchene, Chris Tierney, Thomas Chabot, Dylan DeMelo and Alex Formenton. So not just one or two players but a good chunk of the team including 3 or their top 4 scorers this season.
Worst part for me is that the Senators are actually having a decent start to the season. They are a few points out of the playoffs right now but still very much in contention. This video leaking could put a huge thorn into the locker room that has the potential to spiral the team downward. Then again after everything that's happened in Ottawa the past year, maybe this isn't even a blip on the radar.
