The Real Madrid superstar’s future remains a matter of intense speculation following revelations a fortnight ago which claimed he was ready to quit during the close season after he was charged with tax evasion by the Spanish authorities.
The 32-year-old is currently on international duty with Portugal at the Confederations Cup but has steadfastly refused to answer any questions relating to his future thus far.
His former club Manchester United have been linked with a world record move and Meireles, formerly of Chelsea and Liverpool, believes his ex-international colleague is still capable of coping with the rigors of Premier League football.
‘Yes of course [he could return to the Premier League],’ Meireles
‘He was very successful in the Premier League so I think that if he does not want to stay at Real Madrid, or he wants to leave, then the Premier League is the right place for him to be.
‘He played before at Manchester United, so it could be them, but I think any team… Chelsea? I do not know, but he can play for any team in the Premier League.’
Ronaldo himself will think things through after returning home from Russia, according to his close friend Luis Campos.
Lille’s sporting director told French outlet TF1 earlier this week: ‘He [Ronaldo] has told me that he needs a few days by himself to reflect, which is normal.
‘The situation with Real Madrid during this time is a little tense too, which is also understandable. But Cristiano will have the time he needs to make the right decision, I’m sure of that.
‘I speak to Cristiano often and he is someone who is completely focused on his job. He was very surprised by this whole business of his taxes.’

If Ronaldo does return to the Premier League, I imagine he'd prefer to go back to Man Utd, there he knows the training staff, and his ex manager at Real Madrid, Mourhino. That way the transition for him would be smoother.
However Conte is a talented manager, and you never know Cristiano may want a fresh challenge and to explore London to join a Chelsea team flying high
