Ben Simmons is having a phenomenal rookie season after sitting out last years campaign with injury. He just overtook Magic Johnson with the 2nd most Triple doubles by a Rookie and along with Joel Embid is pushing the 76ers in to the playoffs. With a stat stuffing year leading rookies in most categories you would think that would make the aussie phenom a lock for Rookie Of The Year but a dark horse as emerged late in Donavon Mitchell.
A late first round draft pick there wasnt much hype around Mitchell coming out of the College but in his rookie year he has turned the critics around with a stunning display of scoring and slashing drives and dunks being a highlight. As a rookie he is the Point Guard of a team making a big playoff run in the stacked Western Conference which is no small feat.
Lets look at Simmons and Mitchell by the numbers:
SUMMARY
2017-18
Simmons - 16.2 PPG, 7.8 Reb, 7.2 Ast
Mitchell - 19.8PPG , 3.7 Reb , 3.6 Ast
On comparison Simmons is having a better overall year in my opinion but Mitchell's greater scoring number may hold some sway with Judges, as an overall talent and thus my rookie of the year i am going with fellow Aussie Ben Simmons.
I would like to Donovan Mitchell be ROTY but Ben will be probably

I don't think Simmons should be in the contest for the award considering he was in the organisation last season, but since he is eligible i put him in front of Mitchell.

Simmons gets my vote as well. Mitchell is having a compelling season, but I still think Simmons' overall numbers are better and to me, that puts him over the top. If Mitchell keeps improving over these last 10-12 games though, he could make a serious run at it.
