Finnish Football | Veikkausliiga | 21.06.17 - 22.06.17
The Midsummer Day passed and I am going to write this shortly (and little hangovered). Six matches of Veikkausliiga were played. Some basic football, no big surprises. Still very enjoyable :)
21.06.2017 (UTC +3)
Three games were played. Let's look at them closer:
PS Kemi - FC Lahti | 18.30 | 1-1
This one I predicted as an "easy" win for PS Kemi or as a game where FC Lahti finally starts scoring goals (and conceding them). Something like that was indeed in the air and it resulted to a tie. Both the teams scored, so that was the end of the long run not conceding for FC Lahti. They can be happy with their goal though.
I think we can be satisfied with the result and both the teams can be decently happy with a tie 1-1. The goalscorers were Simonovski (0-1, 5') and Mansally (1-1, 53').
JJK - HIFK | 18.30 | 0-3
A bit of a surprise here as HIFK has not been able to score at all so far this season (only 9 goals in 13 games).JJK is in a bad form and even if it was not, there is no quality to keep up with the other teams. This was their change to at least keep up the hope to turn the tables but they failed.
The happy goalscorers for HIFK were Kuusijärvi (0-1, 60') and Gela (0-2, 65') and Forssell (0-3, 73').
FC Inter - KuPS | 18.30 | 1-1
Another tie here. KuPS will be happier. I have no idea how FC Inter is not able to score more even though they have perhaps the best strikers of the league on paper.
The game ended 1-1 and the goalscorers were Jiri Nissinen (1-0, 89') and N. Kuqi (1-1, 90'), who scored a dramatic equalizer in the end from a penalty.
A fun fact is that the yet-to-be suspended players Duah and Salami were in starting eleven. The suspension (2 + 4 games for "attacking" the referee) will step in only after this match I guess. Makes no sense.
22.06.2017 (UTC +3)
Same as the day before, three games were played and in all of them the host won.
VPS - RoPS | 18.30 | 1-0
VPS is doing amazingly well and the preparation for Euro-qualifications is on the way. The away side in other hand, just cannot fetch any points as they travel. History repeating itself as the RoPS team is the most northern team in the league and as they travel the most they tend to lose some points due that. Sometimes this can be positive thought as he momentum and team spirit created by this has to admired and can result to very good outcome
As said, RoPS could not get any points and the good form of VPS contidued. RoPS started the game very passively, and it could be seen that this is not going to be an easy game for the for sure. Indeed it was not. The game ended 1-0 as VPS scored from a freekick on extra time of the first half. RoPS came back much more active after the break but still could not score. The only goalscorer of the game was Markus Jürgenson (1-0, 45').
Ilves - SJK | 18.30 | 1-0
SJK is suffering. They are between a rock and a shitty car-wreck (or something). Nothing works for them. It is already third coach for them this season and the results are just getting worse and worse. The problem is with the management. The owner of the club totally lost his touch with the reality of Finnish football and this is turning out to be a disaster. Lucky for them, there is still time to fight and survive. Right now it is not looking good. Raimo Sarajärvi (the owner, chairman) has to step back a little and leave the game for professionals.
Ilves beat the suffering SJK 1-0. The former SJK player Ariel "Tuco" Ngueukam (1-0, 77') was the only goalscorer of the game.
HJK- IFK M | 18.30 | 2-0
HJK seems unstoppable. IFK M is in bad form but this one could have ended with bigger numbers, the advantage being for the home team.
Many were thinking that HJK will not be able to score and win anymore after the sale of Morelos but they have proven it wrong. As the teams prepare for the Euro-qualifications, we can guess which team is more satisfied.
The first goalscorer of the match was Demba Savage (1-0, 24') who will be very happy as he has been struggling to score and the expectations of the fans were piling some pressure on him. Pelvas nailed the final one (2-0, 66') passed by Savage. Nice to see these too guys doing so well :)
