Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane both chalked up a historic record as Real Madrid qualified for the Champions League final by knocking out Bayern Munich.
Madrid hold Bayern 2-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, so qualify for the final with a 4-3 aggregate advantage.
These results ensure that Zidane is able to bring his team to the three finals in a row. He followed in the footsteps of Marcello Lippi and Fabio Capello of Italy. The difference of its predecessor was both only managed to win a title from the third final, while Zidane is still likely to wipe out three titles.
Marcello Lippi qualified for the finals three times in a row in 1996, 1997, and 1998. However, he was only able to lead Juventus champions in 1996. While Capello qualify for the finals in 1993, 1994, and 1995 with AC Milan. He won the European competition trophy in 1994.
Under Zidane, Real Madrid have never been eliminated in the Champions League. They qualify in the nine autumn rounds (each two games) and win the final two games.
In addition to Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo also carve a slick record in the game. He appeared for the 152 times as well as breaking Xavi's record as the most frequent player in the Champions League.
When installed in the final game, this Portuguese player will perform for the sixth time in the top game. Previously only Paolo Maldini is able to carve such records.
Some other notable notes from the second semi-final match:
• James Rodrigues, the Bayern player, became the seventh in history to score against Madrid, who also scored for the team. Previous players who carve the same record is David Beckham, Alvaro Morata, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Morientes, Arjen Robben, and Zamorano.
• Real Madrid qualify for the final for the third time in a row. They also reached the final for the 16th time, a record in Europe's prestigious competition.
• Keylor Naas did eight rescues in the game. The record was the most that made the goalkeeper in the Champions League knockout stage.
