Photo Esssay – VFL Football – North Melbourne versus the Northern Blues.

We are back again at the VFL which is the second tier version of Australian Rules Football. We are watching my team – North Melbourne (in the blue and white stripes). This game is important for a few reasons. 1. Football has returned to Arden Street oval, which is where North Melbourne played up until 1985, they now play at the 52,00 capacity stadium a few kms up the road. The grandstands are all gone now replaced by trees, and the suburb has changed but there is still something nice about being back. And 2. Majak Daw, who is completing what will be a amazing comeback if he makes it back to North’s first string side, I’m not going to go into details, but it’s quite a story.

So let see some pictures – for the photography nerds all with a Fujifilm X-T3, the 55-200m XF Zoom in sportfinder mode, F4.5, 1/1000 shutter and Program ISO

Anyone who has seen footy at Arden Street will recognise the Stokoe Motors backdrop

I do also like the awkwardness of sports photography, here are some highlights...

Arden Street!! Oh My Buddha - it has been a looooong time since I saw ANYthing to do with Aussie Rules. LOL. I grew up the second part of my childhood in MEL and lived in Oz for almost 30 years. Happily now in Thailand for the last 16, where Aussie Rules feels like another lifetime.

I suddenly have flashbacks of a teenage crush on Peter McKenna LOL

Thank you for a lovely reminisce and nostalgic backwards glance to a life that I am unlikely to ever go back to.... Nice Post!!

Now that was the feeling I was looking for, Peter McKenna is a little before my time, but a crush on a Collingwood full forward is classic Melbourne.

A very wonderful and spectacular shots here.... Even though I am not a fan this kind of sport, the beautiful shots here actually got me fascinated.

Great piece my friend

Thanks, it is a unique sport, and actually quite difficult to photograph, big field, chaotic movement.

Hey, thats lovely and I would say comparing with the subject of the post the number of photographs might looks less, is it so. I think I did not came across such blogs here featuring a photo essay of a sports event. May be people close to your place can related more to it. Though this

grandstands are all gone now replaced by trees,

reads casual, it is extremely important from the point of environment also and it is timely too. And finally I have one question too, the game is basically Base ball, is it but the title says football. Is both same?

ehy dear @harveyword, I love all your photos !! they are beautiful .-)) and I love sport, so the combination of the two is perfect for me !! I like it when sports actions are immortalized forever in one shot! and the faces of those players ... wow :-)) are you a professional photographer?
congratulations for your curie vote and your work

No not professional, just a keen hobbies.
