The Spanish La Liga is finished for the last year and is set to return to action from the 3rd of this year 2019. Granted, there has been a lot of twists and turns in this league so far with the top guns still battling for supremacy in the league. However, there are other teams in this league who would be itching to have a go at to what they can achieve. That would be the case when both Espanyol and Leganes face off against each other in what should be an entertaining fixture.
There is no doubt that Espanyol is a team who would be desperately looking behind them in the league so far. They are currently 14th on the standing and would desperately be trying to avoid the drop. This would surely be on their mind when they meet their opponents for the first time this season. Leganes are just barely in the bottom half of the table this season as they sit in 16th. They would be hoping that things only get better for them in this league as they start the year on the road facing Espanyol. Espanyol would be hoping that they can end their run of form which has been dreadful this season while leganes would be hoping to expand on it anyway that they can.
The form of both teams when compared would enable you to see who are the clear favorites heading into this game. Espanyol has not had it easy in the league this season. They have only won once in their last six games. The rest have been losses. In fact, in the last ten games, they have just won twice and drawn once in the league. They would be aware of their form and would be hoping that they do not have to record another loss at home this season. The case is different with Leganes who has a much better form than Espanyol. Leganes has won one of their last six matches with the other matches ending in two draws and two losses. When this is expanded to the last ten games, leganes has won just once in their last ten games. It is a pretty decent record for a team sitting on 16th. They would no doubt make efforts to win and go as high as they can in the league this season. History would be on the side of Espanyol heading into this game. Both teams have met 26 times in all competitions with Espanyol taking victory in 10 of those to that of Leganes seven. They would be aware however that times have changed and they would probably be considered the underdogs going into this game. Leganes, on the other hand, would be looking to make an impact with or without history on their side as their opponents look ripe for the taking.
Fans would be hoping that the first game of the year is worth their tickets and goes according to plan. We can only and see.
