A big congratulations to NFL hopeful Shaquem Griffin of the University of Central Florida for performing out of this world at the NFL combine.
Griffin ran 4.38 seconds in the 40 yard dash and also bench pressed 225 pounds 20 times. For any regular citizen this is already an umbelievable feat. But there is more to this story.
What makes Griffin's performance that much more extraordinary is that he did it with with only 1 hand.
Griffin was born with amniotic band syndrome, a congenital disease that was so painful, according to an interview during the NCAA Peach Bowl, that he asked his parents at age 4, to let him get the surgery to remove his hand. So he did.
And he has defied the odds ever since. He went on to become an all-conference linebacker at UCF and even had 92 tackles and 11.5 sacks his final collegiate year.
Ohx and those 20 bench presses he did? He used a prosthetic hand. I'm lucky to get half way with both my hands. Incredible!
Such an amazing story about perseverance and sheer will. I, for one, hope this leads to a successful NFL career for Griffin, and that this also gives him the platform for speaking to others about never giving up.

One love,
he's played with this his life so it won't be an issue in the NFL.

The 20 reps that he did were more that Calais Campbell and Jason Pierre Paul did when they were draft eligible. Griffin is such an inspiration.
