'Miss, what are they doing???' While watching winter Olympics in the Caribbean

Yessss, finally the winter Olympics in Pyongyang have started. Are you watching as well?

Wintersports are something I can continuously watch to be honest. Biathlon and downhill skiing are my favorites to watch. Back in the days when I was living in Holland the weekends would always contain some Eurosport on the background with snow on the screen there. This habit stopped after I moved to the Caribbean. But around Olympics time something is waking up my little sport heart. Like the 5 rings are calling me.

'Miss, what are they doing???

Just today I had something funny. I had the TV on while streaming cross country skiing for women. This is already a hassle, because St Martin is not supported by most sport live streams. I use a VPN everywhere to even have a chance of watching anything at all. So while the cross country is playing in the background, I have workers in the house who are fixing my windows (yeahhhh 5 months after the hurricane they are getting fixed, YIIIIHAAAAAA). These are local Caribbean boys, who never left the Caribbean. They are staring at the TV and then staring at me, and 1 guys asks:
'Miss, what are they doing?? Is that snow?? Why arent they falling??'

I had a very 'Cool Runnings' feeling all of a sudden hehehehehehhe

We talked a bit about snow and cold and sports, they were super super curious because they havent seen or felt snow ever before. They concluded with that it would be way too cold for them, I recommended Cool Runnings :)))

Biathlon

Im really looking forward to the Biathlon races. Biathlon to me is the sport - of - titans. Cross country skiing in combination with shooting, while your heart rate is going through the roof. Isnt that an achievement only for heroes? And when you miss your shot, as a punishment you either have to ski extra laps (getting your heart rate up even more) or get extra time on your ass. I cant wait until this will start!

Speedskating

As a Dutchy, I should already be proud today because of the achievement of the Dutch ladies on the 3000 meter. Gold, silver and brons on one stage. Quite cool!! But the fact is, I find speedskating super boring, so I didnt see anything of this hahaha

Timezone

With a timedifference of 13 hours compared to Pyongyang and here it might be challenging to watch a lot of races live. Still I will try my best, because the Olympics still remain something special.

What are you going to watch these Olympics?

thank you for post! very interesting! I also wrote today about the Olympics! look at my blog. I would be grateful!

Always funny to see people who aren't used to it react to a certain situation. Yesterday I met a Thai couple on holiday in Amsterdam. They had planned their trip well, so they thought, and were covered in what seemed like five layers of clothing, wolly hats, gloves and snowboots. I was happy to be able to practice my leftover Thai language and they were ecstatic to meet someone who could more or less speak their language. Yet, my knowledge of their language wasn't enough to explain to them that there would be no elfstedentocht, and no, there hadn't been one since 1997, and no, I didn't think there would be any significant snow in the coming days :-D

So , instead I adviced them to visit the Rijksmuseum and end the day with some proper Dutch boerenkool met worst.

Today they came into the delicatessenshop I work at to let me know how much they had appreciated the boerenkool. But not before the waiter gave them some spicy mustard to spice up the mash :')

hahahahahha thats a cool story dude! An elfstedentocht! lord I can even remember the previous one and thats already 21 years ago. Ouch when you say 21 years it hurts a little bit right :D

Good advice boerenkool, or go on a canal trip or something... Just like when Queensdays turned into Kingsday all of a sudden and all the tourists are there on the wrong day. :))))

Yeah, it was one of those encounters that make your day :-)
