Whilst neither ‘luck’ nor ‘judgement’ were able to return any money yesterday it is fair to say that ‘judgement’, that is to say me, can regard the day as a points victory, albeit a hollow one.
Indeed, things could barely have gone worse for @happyaslarry. One of his selections pulled up, another ambled it’s way to last place, while the third (randomly chosen 5/4 favourite, Dream Machine) was a non-runner.
Meanwhile, my judgement calls fared significantly better. Dolphin Square gave me a perfect start, fairly romping home in the 15:15 at Exeter, but then Graasten fell at Plumpton, bringing me back to earth with a bump. This left, the aptly named, Destinys Choice to carry the burden of expectation in the bumper at Southwell. Sadly the pressure proved too much and a spirited fifth place was not quite enough to stop a big fat zero going in the ledger.
It’s very much more of the same from me today. The racing on offer looks to be of dubious quality, owners perhaps giving the second string a run out between Cheltenham and Aintree, an equine stock take, if you will, to see what may or may not be a good prospect for next year. Richard Johnson takes the ride on En Meme Temps and in a race of limited ability the champ is always likely to make a difference. Itsamanslife is a course and distance winner at Huntingdon while My Turgeon is really nicely handicapped and with Nico de Boinville on board looks the nag to beat.
Here’s a few words from, the perhaps not so, @happyaslarry on his picks today:
”Black Anthem because I was feeling pretty gloomy all afternoon, Mrs Miggins because I’ve picked Black Anthem and it makes me think of Blackadder, Save The Pennies because that’s the nickname of a savings account I have (with nothing in it).”
