Sadio Mane, Liverpool's Fourth Player in the Champions League

There is an interesting record behind the landslide victory over Liverpool host FC Porto in the first game of the Champions League last 16, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Stadium Do Dragao, Porto.

Of the five goals Liverpool victory, 3 donated by his wing striker, Sadio Mane. Mane is a Senegalese player. Before this match, there were only three players of the Reds who were able to score a hat-trick in the Champions League.

Sadio Mane also became the fourth player who can make three goals in a Champions League match. But, for the Champions League knockout phase, the former Southampton player is the first Liverpool player to make a hat-trick.

These are the previous three hat-trick makers:

• Michael Owen scored three goals as Liverpool beat Spartak Moskva 3-1 on 22 October 2002.
• Then Yossi Benayoun three-time goalkeeper Besiktas in Liverpool's 8-0 victory on 6 November 2007.
• Philippe Countinho three goals as Liverpool Spartak Moscow 7-0 on 6 December 2018. (Currently Philippe Coutinho has joined Barcelona FC)
