With just two wins in each their first five games, both the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning have had a rocky start to the NHL season. The Atlantic Division rivals will face off at the Bell Centre for this first time this season, and both clubs will be eager to get back on track and register two points in the standings.
For Tampa, it’s been a lot of scoring, but not great defence. They’ve notched 20 goals in five contests, but have given up 17. That includes a 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators, who are expected to be among the worst teams in the NHL this year, in their previous game.
While goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy hasn’t been sharp to start the year (3.04 GAA, .903 save percentage), it’s been a porous defence that’s given the Lightning all of their troubles. For the Habs, it’s been a similar story. Montreal is a team that counts on solid team defence to win, but that’s been missing for parts of games in the early going. They did, however, have a big bounce-back game on Saturday against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, when they defeated the St. Louis Blues 6-3.
The Canadiens are hoping that win will spark the team and carry over to Tuesday’s contest against the Lightning. The puck drops at 7 PM ET, so don’t miss the action.
NHL Odds: Drouin Looks to Lead Canadiens
Past Former Club There was a great deal of speculation about Jonathan Drouin to start the season after the winger struggled down the stretch of last season and had a lackluster preseason.
However, the Quebec native has come out hot, registering six points in five for a share of the team lead in that category. He’ll have some extra motivation on Tuesday when his Canadiens take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa Bay is coming off of an embarrassing 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. They’ve been inconsistent to start the season, so it’ll be an interesting game to watch, as both teams continue to work out the early-season kinks. Game time is set for 7 PM ET.
