NBA All-Star Game New Rules

in sports •  7 years ago

The NBA All-Star game just made a big change for this year. The traditional East vs West is no more. There will be captains that will be able to draft their 2 teams. I am not sure if I like this idea or not. One change I would love to see would be more competition. There is ZERO defense in these games and they are meaningless. It is an alley oop and layup line until the final minutes.

Here is what I would do. I would have each captain pick 1 charity. The winning team would donate $1 Million to the charity they chose. It would be great for the charity, great for the league, and force these players to actually try. What do you think? Cheers!

Make it 3 million @scottybuckets have each player pay a donation to play...

I'm thinking $80,000 per player so if we look at 12 each side that's $1.92 million.

The NBA can kick in the other $1.1 million via broadcast deal.

Each player gets to choose their charity and at the end of the game one of the charities is chosen as the winner recieving the full 3 million donation via a lottery ball system.

This would have 24 balls 1 for each players charity.

These guys can spend big bucks on a lot of other things and this would be a opportunity for others to put their hand up that may not have always been selected for the all star game due to rosters etc..

They could call it "Charity Ball Night" and the big names would not want to be left out I'm sure...

What do you think?

Love it

Good idea. Pay to play!

All star is not interesting any more for watching, at least from my stand point. I remember in the time of 90's and 00's they were fighting each other even on the all star game. Now it is just a show without desire to win. Just to be MVP and to have better stat. As I said this is only my opinion no offense.

You are 100% correct

I am just getting back into NBA, but they are all soft with these new rules compared to the old days of Barkley, Pippen, Jordan etc where they would just run all over these teams with the old rule set in place.

Still pretty decent to watch, but the rules in not only NBA but other sports have made it worse with what they became.

But I think donating to the charity would be a good idea, maybe have a select pool or something else for a captain to choose from for each position.

I'm 39 and grew up watching that great ball, it is soft as hell now.

I like your idea of a charitable donation. I have been pondering ideas of how to fix this since last seasons all start weekend. I watched everything but the actual game. Here is one other idea I came up with. It is how we used to finish off high school basketball practice each day.

Come up with 5-10 end of game situations. Here are a few examples.
a. down 10 with 2 minutes
b. down 5 30 seconds
c. up 5 with 4 minutes with the ball

Each team gets to compete against the other in each situation. You add up the total victories and then the losers have to run laps!!!!

Just an idea.

That would be interesting.

I never miss All-Stars but almost all games in last decade are big jokes. I don't think this will change anything though.
