Gleyber Torres, one of the Yankees top minor league prospects, and the man that some have tagged as the Jeter replacement as a future superstar Yankee shortstop, made his AAA debut with Scranton-Wilkes Barre on Tuesday.

Torres began his minor league career in 2013, after being signed as a free agent by the Chicago Cubs. He came to the Yankee organization in 2016, in a trade thevsent Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs for four minor league players: Billy McKinney, Adam Warren, Rashad Crawford, and Torres. Obviously, Yankee scouts must have been very impressed with the potential of these young players to send the premier closer in baseball to another team for them...of course, after helping the Cubs win the World Series in the 2016 season, Chapman returned to the Yankees with a five year/$84 million contract.

The 2017 season started for Torres in AA Trenton, where in 121 at bats he logged 33 hits, 18 RBI's, and 5 HR's, with a .287 batting average. In his AAA debut, he went 1 for 3, with a single, walk, and a strikeout. He started the game at third base; at Joe Girardi's direction Torres has started at all infield positions on a rotating basis.

Since Scranton -Wilkes Barre is usually the last stop before being called to the Bronx, where would Torres play in the Yankees infield ? Starling Castro ( .335 BA, with 7 HR's and 27 RBI's), and Didi Gregorius ( .319 BA , with2 HR's and 16 RBI's) have the 2 B and SS positions wrapped up. First baseman Greg Bird, who is currently on the disabled list, has had a myriad of problems, with his bat, glove, and physical issues. However, his replacement , Chris Carter, has impressed with bat and glove, he has homered in his last 2 games. So, that leaves third base, where Chase Headley , although he does have flashes of brilliance, has had his ups and downs this season, with a .237 BA, and a dismal fielding percentage; his 9 errors lead the major leagues among players at all positions.

So, better pick it up Chase, Gleyber Torres is 145 miles from the Bronx.

I think they need to just bring him on up! Let him hit at the bottom of the order and learn the ropes in the big leagues. It would be great for him to work with players like Matt Holliday
