Goodell signs 5 year contract extension
Sources close to the situation are reporting that the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell are close to finalizing a 5 year entersion, which would ensure Goodell would stay in his position thru 2024.
Roger Goodell took his position as Commissioner on September 1st 2006, taking over for the retiring Paul Tagliabue. Since taking the reigns of the billion dollar enterprise, Goodell has been "walking on water". Revenues have nearly tripled to $14B annually including a 75% increase over the last 7 years. While Goodell's ROI for the league isn't quite the return one could have gotten investing in Bitcoin 7 years ago, it's still pretty darn impressive.
While Goodell has made the NFL owners plenty of money to buy Lambo's and Rolex's, he has made MULTIPLE highly questioned decisions while at the helm of the league. Events such as #deflategate, the information on CTE and the institution of the Player's Code of Conduct, are just some of the issues that many believe Goodell handled badly while Commissioner. Some also wonder if a majority of his legacy is a result of perfect timing and taking over a business model the previous regime had put an extreme amount of thought and investment toward.

This is awful news. I have never been a fan of Goodell. I am no Patriots fan but I went to school in Boston so maybe that is the bias I have in this post. It could just be his power as commissioner but that's a whole other story...

Well, I personally don't like him either. Considering that I am an Eagles fan (my weakest philly team alliance but I still root for them) and most Eagles fans believe spygate cost them a superbowl that's saying something. I really do believe that he is a product of timing. Television revenues went crazy. Look at what ESPN just went thru, not exactly the same because they ridiculously over spent to get all the talent in sports but they were also a product of TV money. When people stopped tuning in to Sports Center for their sports news, because we all have notifications on our phones and would just link to a website for the story these days, ESPN no longer had the money to maintain the ridiculous contracts they would give columnists to pull them away from the largest newspapers. That's a completely other topic tho, haha. Thanks for chiming in, I appreciate it.
