Rambling About Golden State Social Justice Warriors

Today, the Warriors announced that they will not make an appearance in the White House following their triumph over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers (did you expect any other outcome?). Some Warriors fans are more elated about the Warriors not shaking hands with President Trump than they are about their team winning the whole enchilada! While it is their choice to decide whether or not they want to go to Washington, why does this even matter anymore? Why is this even a thing?

Over the years, some of the greatest teams and athletes of all time have traditionally graced their presence at the White House to take pictures with the President. Up until ten years ago, it never seemed like such an issue. Only a few players missed the event for personal reasons back then. It was rude to make politics the reason why one wouldn't attend. Athletes once understood that their fanbases are diverse (race, creed, and thought). But today, things are different...everything under the rock is a political issue and today is the first time in US sports history where an entire franchise refused to visit the White House. The Bush and Obama years witnessed athletes who did not attend the White House picture for political reasons. I am not opposed to that. If you really don't want to be there, it is your choice...I just think it's a bad choice to make, personally. It is, however, totally unheard of that an entire team can unanimously refuse to fly to Washington. What has happened to sports?

What we need to do is completely abolish this tradition. Sports and politics should not mix. If it did, we would've had more parity in this league. The Warriors would be forced to redistribute their wealth of talent and knowledge of teamwork to teams deficient of such....now that wouldn't be fair to the Warriors, right fans? If sports and politics mixed, we would have more diversity in the league. "We need more 5'6" Mexicans on our team!". Can you imagine what would happen to the NBA if allowed affirmative action to take over??

If we mixed sports with the political climate of today, we'd have an even worse NBA product than the NBA we already have. I hated that Durant signed with the Warriors, but I can't blame a team that wants to be the best ever and a phenomenal athlete willing to take a pay cut to be part of that rare experience. That's the beauty of the free market that San Francisco fans should get behind. Why are the Warriors virtue signalling to their fanbase by not attending the White House ceremony? Yes, people hate Trump. Especially in San Francisco. While this is a great move for the Warriors to appease their fanbase, it's too bad the Warriors didn't use this as a great opportunity to virtue-signal the beauties the free market brought to their progressive fanbase. Maybe that'll help the Democratic Party actually win elections in perpetuity!

Whether a sports team visits the White House isn't important, really. They both have ought to have more important things to do. It's a free country and people should be free as they choose to do. :)

hell yeah! It's still pretty funny how my friends back home were excited about them not going to the White House though.
