Jake Paul pays fighters despite cancelled event: Is he actually a good guy?

I can't believe I just asked that question as I am one of the people that believes that the Paul brothers are two of the biggest d-bags on the planet. I also don't believe that either one of them are competent boxers but merely rig the outcome of their fights either with backroom deals with their opponents or by intentionally facing off against people who aren't actually good boxers.

That notion kind of still remains true for me but Jake Paul has been an outspoken critic of UFC's payments to their athletes and even though I still think he is cringe as hell, I agree with him on this issue.

If you have been following this, the original main event was supposed to be Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury but Fury was denied a visa to the USA for some reason, I think it was ties to the mob or some sort of conviction - I don't remember but it was legit. As a last-minute replacement Paul put Hasim Rahman Jr. in the role but this ended badly because there was a "weight dispute" likely meaning that Rahman wasn't able to make weight. I say it is "likely" because if Paul couldn't make weight they probably would have just fudged the numbers and gone ahead with the fight anyway - that is just me being cynical about the Paul boxing promotion though.

Although Jake has a brash personality that rubs people, including and especially me, the wrong way, he made a move after the venue was cancelled outright, that kind of surprised me.

He agreed to pay all the fighters whose matches couldn't be rescheduled to NOT fight at all. I don't think I have ever heard of any fighting promotion ever having done that and while I am sure a lot of it is Public Relations, it is a good way for Jake to seem more legitimate in his constant calling out of UFC and especially Dana White about what Paul and many others consider to be very poor payment of their athletes.

I disagree with Jake Paul about just about everything else but I am with him as far as the payment of athletes in the UFC is concerned. There is a reason why Dana White and the rest of the folks at UFC haven't really addressed this criticism and that is because of the fact that they know that Paul is right. They also know that they don't have to do anything about it because the fighters keep lining up for their chance at the one and only truly global MMA promotion that exists in the world.

The "Most Valuable Promotions" company, which is the boxing promotion run by Jake and presumably Logan Paul, made a statement stating that the payment to all undercard boxers who couldn't be rescheduled are going to receive 50% of their promised purses directly from Jake Paul, not the company itself.

Could the payment problem in combat sports actually end up being settled by this very unlikely leader of the pack? I really don't like Jake Paul and look forward to him being humbled by a real opponent one day, but if he could improve the lives of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of aspiring fighters, I would stand by him in this endeavor.
