MMA fighters and other celebs continue to destroy boxing

After Jake Paul and Mike Tyson agreed to a fight that really shouldn't happen but of course everyone is going to watch, I thought that maybe everyone would calm the hell down about these exhibition fights that I really don't think do much to benefit MMA or boxing for that matter. These fights are not the best boxers in the world but unfortunately they are immensely popular to the point where people get more excited about these fights than they are getting about fights between the genuinely best boxers in the world.

It seems as though it is going to get worse before it gets better though because a 58 year old Mike Tyson vs a YouTuber turned boxer (kinda) wasn't enough of a trampling on the sport of boxing for the masses apparently.

You'll see that Real Fight Inc as part of the advert above and this is likely a big part of the reason why this fight is happening at all. Nate Diaz and his brother Nick are the owners of this promotion and as many of us have learned over the years thanks in a big way to the UFC fighter-pay controversy, the promoters often take a lion's share of the overall earnings of any fight.

Masvidal and Diaz have faced on another before and it was at the inaugural run of the stupidest championship to ever exist: The dreaded BMF belt.

I remember that day and how the lack of enthusiasm on "The Rock's" face kind of said it all. It's one of those "what the hell am I doing here?" moments that lead to my and most people's general disdain for the very existence of this belt. To make the belt award going to Masvidal even more frustrating, Jorge didn't actually win the fight... the fight was stopped because Nate was bleeding too much and a doctor stopped the fight.

Now to be fair to the doctor that cut above Nate's right eye was absolutely massive and he was probably medically required to call the fight off. Nate bleeds a lot though, that is kind of his thing. I already hated that the BMF belt was ever introduced to the sport but the fact that it was around the waist of a guy who has never had an actual championship in any weight division because he won via doctor' stoppage against a guy who has also never been the champion of anything, was just annoying AF.

So I guess in some people's minds this feud that wasn't really a feud to begin with needs to be resolved but if that's the case, then why the hell are we putting two guys who are not boxers into a boxing ring to settle the score? I can only guess that it is because of the fact that Masvidal is still under contract with UFC despite the fact that he isn't fighting anymore. He has done some promotional work with various outfits, but I believe he may actually not be allowed to fight in any MMA fights that are not done by UFC.

I'm certain of two things here: The event is going to make a ton of money for everyone involved in particular Nate Diaz, and it is probably going to be a sloppy slugfest since neither one of these guys are boxers. I am having flashbacks to a time when we had "Celebrity Boxing" events and thankfully, it didn't last long.

When your headline fight is "Willis" vs "Vanilla Ice" you know that you are in for some extremely high level boxing skills.

I'm just kidding of course. It was a disgrace and this series only made it two episodes before people stopped enjoying seeing their childhood idols sell out to the almighty dollar collar and look like absolute fools in a boxing ring.

Obviously the Diaz and Masvidal fight it going to feature ever-so-slightly greater skills than Ice vs. Willis but at the same time, it takes away from the legitimacy of actual boxing as a whole. In the meantime we have actual boxers that have devoted their entire lives to the sweet science that can't even get a decent booking because of clown shows like this. This is the equivalent of Keeping up with the Kardashians as far as combat-sports are concerned. To be honest I would probably much rather see the Kardashians fight. Their nails are probably too long.

I never watch these things and I certainly don't pay any money for them. I will end up watching a pirate stream of it after the fact so that I can skip through the dancing and wild swinging of "uneducated fists." I'm not saying that Diaz or Masvidal are not tough but seriously guys, you are now part of the problem.
