Chicago Bears – 2017-18 NFL Season Analysis
A New Face
The Chicago Bears have been awful over the past few years. They ended up with a record of 3-13 last year and did not make it to the playoffs in the last 6 seasons. The Bears have essentially resorted to clearing house. Over the course of the 2017 off-season Chicago made a number of moves to completely change the face of the organization. Here’s a look at some of the key transactions.
Key Player Additions
QB – Matt Glennon
QB – Mark Sanchez
WR – Kendall Wright
WR – Marcus Wheaton
RB – Benny Cunningham
T – Bradley Sowell
CB – Prince Amukamara
Key Player Drops
QB – Jay Cutler
QB – Brian Hoyer
QB – Matt Barkley
WR – Alshon Jeffery
CB – Brandon Boykin
S – Demontre Hurst
DT – Cornelius Washington
The Draft
The Bears traded up in the 2017 draft to receive the number 2 overall pick. With it, they hope to have a future starting quarterback. Here is a rundown of the Bears 2017 draft selections.
1st Round – Mitchell Trubisky – QB – North Carolina
2nd Round – Adam Shaheen – TE – Ashland
4th Round – Addie Jackson – S – Alabama
4th Round – Tarik Cohen – RB – North Carolina A&T
5th Round – Jordan Morgan – OL – Kutztown
The Bears investment in Mitchell Trubisky is going to be a long-term one. They drafted him with the intentions of having a franchise QB down the road. Trubisky has speed and agility yet works as a great pocket passer. In the long run, he might be the one to turn this struggling organization around.
Players to Watch
Kevin White, WR
With Cameron Meredith sidelined for the entire season with an ACL injury, the Bears will rely on Kevin White, their 2015 first round draft pick, to step up and become a top receiving option. Expect White to get a lot of looks working alongside receivers Marcus Wheaton and Kendall Wright. The former West Virginia phenom could be a sleeper option for Fantasy Football owners this year.
Jordan Howard, RB
Howard burst onto the scene with an outstanding rookie season following the injury to former lead back Jeremy Langford. He had over 1,300 rush yards, averaging over 5 yards per carry. Fantasy owners will have high expectations for Howard in the 2017 season. He should receive a heavy workload over the course of the year. Jeremy Langford and Ka’deem Carey are next in line and will try to make the most of their carries in hopes to earn a role in the Bears run game.
Overview
The Bears have a solid defense. Their front line is one of the best in the league. If the offense can figure it out they will be able to win some games this year. Glennon is expected to start at quarterback, but Trubisky will be waiting eagerly to take over the helm whenever the opportunity arises.
