Another team from the Top 10 faces an upset, Clemson and Alabama continue to dominate, and college football is getting into the meat of the season. At this point we are getting a clearer picture of contenders, pretenders, and teams that pray to sneak out enough games to get a spot in some crappy bowl that most people have never heard of before. We see a mix of perennial powerhouses and promising mid majors.

Next Five Up (In Order):

Louisville (4-1), UTSA (3-0), Ohio (4-1), Oregon (4-1), Virginia Tech (4-1)

Notes:

There are 17 remaining undefeated teams and only UTSA is unranked, most likely due to a weaker schedule and only playing three games. We are starting to see some separation of the Top 4 teams from the rest of the pack, due to each team winning at least one quality game. USC was the highest ranked team to lose, dropping to 17. Washington State, who beat them rises to 6. There are six teams from the Group of 5, with San Diego State at 5 taking the top G5 spot from South Florida at 8. The Sun Belt makes their first appearance in this ranking with the Trojans ranked at 21 after beating LSU.

Last Words:

If you have any questions, comments, or are curious where a specific team lies in the overall ranking of the 130, feel free to leave a comment below. We'll be back next Monday.

Has Clemson played tougher opponents? Seems like there games have been a little closer in there games then BAMA??

The algorithm the ranking system uses does not use score differential. Thus, Alabama beating Ole Miss 66-3 is the same as Alabama beating Ole Miss 7-3. At the end of the day, winning is the only thing that matters. Clemson is Number 1 since they have beaten both Louisville and Virginia who were both undefeated when Clemson played them.

I think Bama should be #1 personally but them and Clemson seem to be on a collision course for a 3rd straight national championship matchup.

Did you mean SMU Mustangs?

Ah, yes. Thanks for the catch. We really need less Tiger mascots, before it becomes my default label.

No problem, there are like 20 Tiger mascots in the NCAA haha
