What Does a Reduction in Glove Actually Mean for Both Men?
For Conor:
This variable will only help the Irish man as he has the larger frame, hands and power. The younger athlete poses a problem in any combat arena, but with 4 oz. gloves (or none at all), Conor is most lethal. If the UFC's two division champion has been training in 10oz. to 12oz. gloves, he will greatly appreciate the reduction weight, and the addition to his cardio output. The regulated 10oz. gloves for sanctioned welterweight bouts (in boxing) are not that much heavier than 10oz., but they are close to the 'mma' sheathe as Conor can get.
For Floyd:
The master manipulator in Floyd has convinced people that he wanted a size reduction to appease Conor, when in fact he is appeasing himself 10 fold. 46 of 49 fights in Floyd's career have been fought in 8oz. gloves, in fact he only wore 10 to 12oz. in his fights against bigger men (such as De La Hoya and Canelo). Floyd has stated that he regretted not having his 10oz. or 8oz. gloves against Oscar, he wasn't able to 'tear him up' like he wanted to. The lightweight gloves still provide one hell of a coat for the wrist and fist itself, glove size enhancements are to protect the hand, not the chin.

For the Contest:
The reduction in gloves actually made me quite happy as a fight fan. For the un-inclined, let me just explain that the chances of a finish increased 100 fold with this decision. The people want to see one of these men finished, even if they are beloved to different audiences in different realms, we all watch fights for the same thing...
The ko power of Conor will always be evident when he throws down with another human being, he is never a non-threat, even in the boxing ring.
Floyd's intelligence on the other hand is also ever present, one can not underestimate the IQ of Mayweather in pugilism, he is one of the greatest tacticians of all time.
Floyd has always wanted reduction in glove size to really punish the opponent, and his pull counters will be even more fluid with lighter gloves. This is a game of inches, and Mayweather holds the yardstick.

I think the gloves massively benefit Conor. We know he won't out-box Floyd and can't win in a decision. Like you said the chance for a finish increased and that is where Conor might have a shot.

I am so excited for the fight

Very interesting - thanks

I hope you all enjoy my blog as well

Can't wait for this fight. thanks

Hope you all follow my blog as well.

Haha I love this!

They should use these

McGregor will surely beat Mayweather. In terms of physical strength and techniques, Mcgregor has the advantage.

strength yes... Techniques no... Mayweather has been boxing the best in the world since a very young age.. Boxing technique Mayweather is ahead of Mcgregor..

Tienen que usar reglas clasicas del Box, creo que gana Mayweather por puntos. ojala lo nockee a mc gregor

Would love some comments from my blog as well!

Great post. Something I have never considered when watching a fight

I hope you will read my post!

Very good information. This will be a interesting match.

Conor doesn't have the stamina to go the distance so i think we'll see him start really aggressive. Mayweather needs to be careful but if he doesn't make any major mistakes, i think he'll win in the 8th or 9th round.

Lmao your last line was perfect haha!

You never know though! The smaller gloves will make it easier for either or them to KO'ed like you mentioned! Conner might sneak one in while Floid is running away like he always does!

Hope you read my blog as well!

People say Floyd runs, but please explain to me how you run in a ring. lol

ahaha Just like on a track, he goes in circles all day!

I feel like they are underselling what they projected, and they are bringing this up to garner more interest. I personally think Floyd is going to frustrate Conor, and he is gonna gas. Alot of straight rights, and Conor will be complaining about Floyd running with a busted up face after the fight.

I hope you read my blogs as well!

I don't think it's a good idea for Floyd to go with smaller gloves. He is a boxer, he is used to hide behind gloves, where in UFC, when you want to block and evade punches, you need a very aggressive head movement and Connor is used to it. We will see how it's going down. This is my first comment on this site and I'm very happy to be here. Thanks and great post.

conor will beat floyd this weekend. mark my words. glove size and weight will have no bearing. ferocity matters.

I expect this was established at the onset, at the signing of the contract. So, you are probably correct that they are making a controversy to hype the fight.
I expect this was planned all along. Not a reaction to sales.
As for who this helps, Mayweather wins this fight with his usual favorite gloves, as you stated.

The whispers here in Las Vegas are saying Conor is still 'heavy' going into mid week. He might have to strain to make the weight limit OR simply get close and just decide to swallow a fine.

Mcgregor getting knocked the F@$% out!!

OOH BOY!

8 oz gloves benefit Conor more.. Due to the fact that there is less padding and more of a chance for his shots to sting/hurt and POSSIBLY put down Mayweather. It still a fight and even with 10 oz gloves a punch to the chin is a punch to the chin.. One clean one for each man could put either of them down.

Just a couple of days left... :)

Its a very well hyped match to build the money but there is only one true boxer and he will win easily.
