Diabetes type 1 is genetic, and may or may not kick in. The pancreas gradually ceases to produce insulin.
Diabetes type 2 is more likely to happen when the amount of insulin your body produces (and continues to produce) cannot cope with the amount of sugar we consume. It is manageable and, I understand, reversible through prudent food intake.
