Hello and welcome to Big Bash team analysis series.
Source: https://wikipedia.org
Big Bash is the second major t20 league in the world and it is underway and we have witnessed some exciting matches already.
Let's start alphabetically with the team analysis and you know there is only one team whose name starts with "A", yes! you are right, it is none other than Adelaide Strikers
Source: https://wikipedia.org
Adelaide Strikers have never had their hands on BBL title before and they wil be itching to get their name written on this one.
They are riding high with three wins out of three matches with the best net run rate and they look as solid and composed as ever.
Out of the three teams two were huge wins as they won them with a margin of more than 50 runs each.
They are based in South Australia and are captained by Travis Head and their head coach is Jason Gillespie
Let's take a look at their squad for this season:
1.Travis Head(c)
2.Wes Agar
3.Alex Carey
4.Jonathon Dean
5.Ben Laughlin
6.Jake Lehmann
7.Michael Neser
8.Peter Siddle
9.Billy Stanlake
10.Jake Weatherald
11.Colin Ingram
12.Michael Cormack
13.Jonathan Wells
14.Daniel Drew
15.Rashid Khan
16.David Grant
17.Liam O'Connor
18.Nick Winter
This squad doesn't look great by the look of it as there are a few huge names in it but they have outclassed some great teams with their all round skills and determination.
Let's take a look at the players who can make an impact in this season of BBL.
Travis Head
Source: https://cricket.com.au
Travis Head is the captain if Adelaide Strikers. He is a middle order batsman who also bowls some off spin.
The left hander bats at #3 for his team. He has got an opportunity to bat in all the three matches so far and has got starts but has just lacked in temperament to convert those starts.
But with all the talent and class he possess, it is just a matter of time when runs will start flowing from his bat.
He is their captain and therefore has to take the responsibility to take the team towards the BBL title glory and I believe he has the potential to do it.
He also bowls some off spin and might take you some wickets as well, though he can be expensive.
The Adelaide team management as well as the players in the squad will look up to him as they will want to write their name on the title.
Watch out fir this man.
Rashid Khan
Source: https://espncricinfo.com
The Afghani leg break bowler has made it big by featuring in BBL as well as in IPL.
He is just 19 year old and he is by far the best player to come out of Afghanistan.
He bowls with the new ball, he bowls in the middle overs, he bowls with the old ball, wait! does he bowl wherever his captain wants him to bowl? yes he does, he can bowl at any stage of the game.
He foxes every batsman with his lethal weapon "googly".
In this season of BBL, he has bowled upfront with the new ball and has been economical.
Wait! Did I just say economical? (yes you did umair),no he is not just economical but he takes you wickets as well. He is a wicket taking bowler.
He might not be the biggest turner of the ball but he is quick through the air which makes is really difficult to play him.
(I always find leg spinners hard to play)
Apart from his bowling, he can also hit some lusty blows towards the end and I have seen him play good knocks with the bat. (That makes him an all-rounder).
Do watch him and his celebration after taking a wicket.
Alex Carey
Source: https://cricket.com.au
Alex Carey is a left handed batter who bats at the top of the order. He opens for Adelaide and is the main reason why Adelaide have won all the three games.
He has two 80+ scores in three games and is in the form of his life.
Alex Carey is a former Australian football player. He is a well built lad and can clear the ropes with ease due to his power.
He is also a decent wicketkeeper, thus providing all round services for the Adelaide Strikers.
Do watch out for clean and big hitting.
Ben Laughlin
Source: https://adelaidestrikers.com
Ben Lauglin made his debut for Australia in 2009 and played a few matches before being eventually left out of the national team.
He bowls right arm medium fast and his consistency in this format of the game makes him one of the players to watch out for.
Ben Lauglin's main weapon is his slower delivery and he has shown how effective it can be in the last season as well as this one.
He bowls first change or second change, mainly in the middle overs and has the leading wicket taker for Adelaide this season.
His wicket taking ability makes him the player to watch out for in this edition of the Big Bash League.
Colin Ingram
Source: https://espncricinfo.com
Colin Ingram is a left handed batsman who bowls occasional leg breaks.
The South African is one of the two overseas players who play for Adelaide Stickers regularly.
He has played all the three matches but is yet to stamp his authority. He can be deadly with the bat in hand once he regains his form.
He has got little starts but hasn't been able to convert them into big ones.
On his day, he can score you big hundreds even in the shorter format of the game. He has shown it in the past and will be itching to do it again.
He bats at #4 for the Strikers and I believe he is best suited for #3 spot, because he has scored huge runs at #3.
It us only a matter of few innings before his bat will start talking and tearing the bowlers apart.
Thank you for reading!
Rashid khan wil rock this year
He already claimed man-of-the-match honours in his Big Bash League debut for the Adelaide Strikers
