A Professional Daily Fantasy Sports Player Converting Into a Professional Sports Bettor  

Looking at today's slate, one thing really sticks out to me and it’s not that big of a shocker. 

Chris Sale is pitching against Martin Perez and I already knew this was going to be a crazy line before I even looked at it. 

Sure enough, yes, the line is freaking huge and you need to bet $260 just to win $100. 

Looking at my fantasy algorithms, the ratings speak for themselves.

While I hate the odds and don’t think Perez is as bad as people make him out to be, I will have a little Red Sox in my card today. 

Something I’ve been getting into more lately is betting the five inning lines. 

Basically, if you don’t know what this means, it’s a bet that ends after five innings. 

This is a great bet to take if a team has a shady bullpen that you don’t trust. 

Looking at Perez’s game log, he’s giving up 2 runs in all of his last three games and lasted about 7 innings in all of them. 

Perez is horrible for fantasy because he doesn’t really strike a lot of people out, but in real life he isn’t bad because he has one of the higher ground ball rates in baseball and that’s exactly what you are looking for when teams go to Fenway. 

High ground ball rates lead to easy outs and double plays if a pitcher gets into trouble.  

With that said, I really like the under 4.5 runs after five today and will also take the Red Sox to be ahead after five. 

I think this has potential to be 1-0 or 2-0 after the first five innings because Sale typically gives up runs later in the game and has been unhittable for the first three innings in every start. 

It’s when lineups start getting to their third or fourth at bat where they start to figure him out. 

Also, I use that term VERY lightly because if by “figuring a guy out” means they get a run or two, that speaks to the level Sale has been pitching.

Speaking of five inning lines, the first game of today's slate really has me interested. 

Odds are most people don’t know who Jose Berrios is for the Twins. I watched his whole last start (because he was playing my Rockies) and the kid looked sharpe.

He’s a top prospect for the Twins and I think he’s going to be a prime pitcher in the league. 

He’s going up against Chris Tilman who’s coming off a shoulder injury but has been looking okay since his return. 

Tilman has played in three games this year and hasn’t given up more than 3 runs in all of his starts. Combine that with the fact that Berrios has only giving up 1 run in his first two starts,  I like this game to say under 5 runs after five innings.

The day is early and something may stick out to me later and if it does I’ll post in the comments but for the time being, I have the following bets and they are all five inning bets

Red Sox -300 and under 4.5 (I parlayed this)

Bal/Min under 5
