Hiya Steemians - given I spent the last two weeks in Bulgaria here a little overview for you sports fans about the most popular sport Bulgarians love and are successful in.
Football is the no. 1 of course - but what else is popular?
Even Bulgaria has established various traditions in different sports it might be safe to say that also here Football (Ahem Soccer for you Americans) is the no. 1 sport in terms of popularity. Taking a closer look into the Olympics and other World / Euro championships one can see what the Bulgarians are most successful in. If we check the Olympic performances the following seem to be the one to talk about - some with a bit controversy of course:
Wrestling
At the Olympics wrestling is the most successful discipline for Bulgarian athletes who have earned a total of 68 medals - 16 gold, 32 silver and 20 bronze. Fighting is in general popular in the country which can be seen by strong traditions in amateur boxing, judo, karate and martial-arts competitions. Sumo is a speciality of Bulgarians as well - probably the best fighting team outside Japan, they have won several European sumo championships.
(Rhythmic) gymnastics
Rhythmic gymnastics a sport? Yes! It is not my favourite - but Bulgaria was dominating this in the 1980ies.
"Rhythmic gymnastics is defined as sport in which individuals or groups of five manipulate one or two pieces of apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon and freehand (no apparatus). Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation."
In the golden age of Bulgaria the country had two superstars in Maria Gigova and Maria Petrova who each won three world-titles.
Weightlifting
Very controverse sport and topic. Since ages weightlifting was extremely popular in Bulgaria and they won a lot gold medals during Olympics, World Championships and other competitions but doping was an increasing problem for the country which had an impact on the popularity. A negative culmination was the expulsion of the entire Bulgarian team from the 2000 Summer Olympics.
Track & field
In the athletics field we have other countries dominating the global scene but even Bulgaria as a small country have realized some amazing achievements which are two world records by Stefka Kostadinova in lady's high jump (209 centimetres) and by Yordanka Donkova in the 100 meters hurdles (12.21 sec) - both records have not been beaten since 1987 / 1988. Also nowadys they have some promising your sprinter girls the country loves and crosses fingers such as Ivet Lalova-Collio below.
Other popular sports
Tennis is another of the very popular sports especially at the moment with Grigor Dimitrov who was the first male Bulgarian player to enter the top 10 ATP singles ranking with the climax of being No. 3. In the 1980ies the Maleeva sisters have been very successful in Lady Tennis.
And finally we can not forget Volleyball. The male Volleyball team of Bulgaria is one of the top teams in the world since several years already.

@detlev @elizacheng @infobunny - look who is here :-)!
@zoolander - you should read the FAQ first (https://steemit.com/faq.html) - here is a site with all apps built on the Steem blockchain you can use: https://steemprojects.com - as @steevc pointed out engage with others, create content about topics you like, ideally format them visually appealing and be patient.
Very important is to keep all your keys in a safe place and never ever use your master password anywhere. Re mobile apps on Android there are some, I personally used esteem usually but maybe do a post and ask the community this question.
Here is the link to the app on Google Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?

I see that you learned a lot about Bulgaria! You must have loved it there! BTW, why did you choose Bulgaria for vacation in the first place? Anything particular?
They are successful in similar sports like Slovakia :) I've heard of Grigor Dimitrov already!

Thanks for popping by - the reason is family related. My wife is from Bulgaria and we have a small flat there so we go there every year.

As you might know, @uwelang, Bulgaria is currently (together with Italy) hosting the Volleyball Men's World Championship. 3 host cities are in Bulgaria (Sofia, Ruse and Varna).

Hi @uwelang,
Please do not abuse #steemfest tag for posts that are not related to the SteemFest. Using irrelevant tags, makes it hard to find good and relevant content.
I know that Scorum is a sponsor, but it doesn't automatically makes scorum related posts to be relevant (and I'm trying to curate some posts of those who are making their efforts to get there)

Ok - if this is seen as an "abuse" when they speak and sponsor Steemfest may it be! Will change it then.

(Look from my perspective, I'm looking for posts related to the SteemFest by searching #steemfest tag, this one just isn't)
