Dear Steemians, what happened on February 22 in Sports History? Back in 1962 Basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain sets NBA record with 34 free throw attempts.
Wilt played center during his career for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers. He broke several records and is widely considered one of the greatest and most dominant players in NBA history. He is the only player to score 100 points in a single game, and he won two NBA Championships.
In addition he is the only player in NBA history to score on average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season. As player he was earning four regular-season Most Valuable Player awards. In 1978 he was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and chosen as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
The MVP (Most Valuable Player) award is given since the 1955–56 NBA season to the best performing player of the regular season. Interestingly for me there is only one international (non-US citizen) MVP winner in history that was trained totally outside the United States which is my fellow German Dirk Nowitzki.
Some interesting fact not everyone knows - apart from his outstanding records is that he almost agreed to take on Muhammad Ali in a real boxing fight - luckily for him this did not take place as of money issues and because his father told him to stick to playing basketball.
