It's hard to find a player that sacrifices for the better of team's success. Not saying most players are not in it to win, of course they are. But you rarely find a player that goes hard on both sides of the ball but more so on the defensive end. Shane Battier isn't a great offensive player (he is a solid shooter). But what Battier does do is guard the team's best perimeter/wing player. When Kobe comes to town, Battier is ready to play. Kevin Durant, Shane is prepared for the matchup. Carmelo Anthony in town, Battier is ready for an post game battle. Does Shane completely shut down star players? No he doesn't, but what he does do is make his opponents work for their offense. He does a great job contesting shots and forcing teams to change their offensive schemes.
To me, Shane is one of the best defenders I ever seen. He doesn't complain, just goes out and plays hard every night. Shane does all the little things you need to win in the NBA. He rebounds, hustles, plays defense and hits key shots when you need them within the offense (38% three point shooter). All of his hard work paid off in helping the Miami Heat win two NBA championships (2012 and 2013). Click the video below for some of Shane's career highlights. Wishes of a great 2019 year for each and everyone of you. Be safe and hope you enjoy the video.
