Many say defenders are a rare find in the history of the NBA. Although that could be true, a few gems do come along in each era. In recent years, one of the best defenders in my opinion is Tony Allen. The Grindfather (Tony's nickname) was a tenacious defender. He enjoyed playing against the opposing team's best player night in and night out. From Kobe Bryant to Kevin Durant, Allen was up to the challenge. He was the driving force behind those blue collar 2010s Grizzlies' teams. He was a good finisher at the rim and played hard every game. A six-time NBA All-Defensive Team member, Tony won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. I guess there is truth to the phase "Defense wins championships".
