A big challenge to face, but i'll face it ......

As some of you may still know, I am a member of the board of our local football club. I have communication in my portfolio but I have not been able to do much with it. There are so many problems within the club that require first attention that I am not at all ready to optimize communication.

To give some context, in the Netherlands football clubs come out in either the Saturday competition or the Sunday competition. Our club comes out in both. Because society is changing and (youth) players often get other interests, it is becoming increasingly difficult to feed the Saturday and Sunday selection with new youth players. This creates an undesirable situation in staffing the different teams. This goes so far that people from the 2 departments no longer talk to each other and try to make life miserable for each other.

I always thought that a football club (viewed from the outside) means fun and sportiness and that everyone with the same intentions is a member of it. This seems a bit too positive, it sometimes seems like a soap.

The low point is a collision between the old board and a certain family. What is happening there is, and actually still is, going beyond all standards of decency. Emails (which I also receive) that are simply unreasonable and full of accusations to our address (the board), that was not the reason why I joined the board in the first instance lol.

I don't understand that people want to make life so miserable for each other, that you almost make your day job to bother people. What I can deduce from old e-mails and letters this family certainly has a point, but then take a constructive approach and do not start throwing mud. This way it will never work out.

Now the financial situation of the club turns out to be so bad that we can face the necessary challenges there too. In the last few years, expenditure and income have not been driven at all, investments have been made without looking at whether it is financially possible. I think that is the first thing you learn at school, you can only spend what you have and preferably save some.

I fear that we still have to make many decisions (nice and less nice) to make the club positive and healthy again. By the way, I will continue to commit myself for the full 100% ... It is a nice club but in bad weather at the moment.
