Philippine Traditional Game: Patintero

in sports •  7 years ago  (edited)

Patintero is one of the most popular Philippine Traditional Game. It is played by two opposing teams, and each team is consisted of at least 3 or more members. Each team can be considered as either the defenders or the attackers.

The defenders are the "it", they should try their best in order to block or tag any players from the opposing team, which is the attackers, while they are trying to enter from the starting line, then try to exit all throughout to the back end line, then the attackers should enter from the back end line, then try to exit all throughout to the starting line again. If the attackers are successfully finished doing that, then they will win that round, and they will play as the attackers again for the next round, but if there is one member from the attackers is touched or tagged by any defenders, then the entire team of the attackers, will going to be the "it" or the defenders for the next round.

The defenders have a limited movement, they can only move, while touching the quadrilateral line thru their feet, and the attackers are only allowed to move inside the quadrilateral line, they are also not allowed to touch the quadrilateral line, because once they touched or step into it, then they are going to be the "it" for the next round. The size of the quadrilateral and its line will going to vary according to the numbers of players. If there are only 3 players in each team, then they should use only a small quadrilateral, because it is really hard to defend a long line, there is only 1 player who is trying to defend each line, while there are 3 players who are going to simultaneously attack and they can easily confuse the "it". The 3 "it" should defend the 3 lines of the quadrilateral. The 3 defenders should defend the starting line, the middle line which guarded by the "patotot" (the patotot, is free to move in any line inside the quadrilateral), and the end line.

This game is an outdoor type of game, because it really needs a huge area in order to play it. This game can also be considered as a national sport here in the Philippines, this game is also played during intramural, sports festival, feast day and if there are any other types of sports competition. Playing Patintero is one of the best things to do, if you want to burn some body fats, while having fun with your friends.
