Welcome Steemians again to the historic '56 World Series. Maybe the greatest series on record for a few reason.
For openers, just from memory, this series featured 6 future Hall of Famers on the same field. Yankees? MANTLE, YOGI BERRA, WHITEY FORD. The Dodgers? ROY CAMPANELLA, DUKE SNIDER, GIL HODGES.
The Yankees took the series in 7 games..Berra had a huge series with 3 home runs...batting .360..Mantle 3 homeruns, and Billy Martin usually a part time performer played all 7 games and was in a starring role, saving the day for Don Larsen.

Yogi Berra has just caught the last pitch thrown by Larsen in the 5th game..A perfect no hit no run , no bases on balls, no errors..First and ONLY one ever thrown in a world series. See the 5 ft. 8in. Berra leap into the arms of the 6'5 inch. Larsen.
Don Larson...a most mediocre pitcher..Never in his career was he more than a "spot" starter and releiver....kind of a spare part. Yes he had good stuff, but not good control and kind of unreliable. Also a goofy sort of character who had "mental lapses". He never fulfilled what might have been, by his own admission. On the day Berra warmed him up and said there is something unusual today. Larsen had his "A" game early on. Berra never had to work, Larsen was that good. On great Yankee teams from '55-'58 Larsen was about 40-20..the resat of his career? 40 wins-70 losses for some poor teams.
