So I tried my hand a sport photography yesterday....with a local Australian game called Australian Rules Football. The game was the reserves, basically the junior team of the North Melbourne Kangaroos (in blue and white) who are in the premier league, so these are the youngester, second string players and injured players coming back versus the Frankston Dolphins (in black), who a second division team.
Or if you are an from Melbourne - this was a VFL game.
I was using a Fujifilm XE3 with a new (to me) lens I picked up that day a Fujinon XC50-230mm zoom, which at $165 Australian (about 100 Euro) is a steal. not really understanding what I was doing, I set the Aperture at 5.0, the ISO at 12,800 and shot 3 frames a second continuous, and let the camera determine shutter speed.
I found it's quite difficult, I've learned a bit a) I should shoot 8 frames per second b) I should shot in Jpeg not RAW so it writes faster and the optical stabiliser in the lens works b) you have to understand the game well to shoot it well, particularly something like AFL which is so random.
Anyway, here are some of the better shots....
So many people flying and no one getting it
Big man Braydon Preuss looking good, but my framing is off a bit
Mitch Hibberd Celebrating what he thins is a goal
And realising it isn't
Gordon Narrier kicking it
Just out of reach
