Hi my fellow steemians. I'm pleased to enter this photograph into the #sportsphotographycontest @photocontests promoted and curated by @juliank

This is the game of french boules, the official name is 'petanque', and photographed in Laos, Luang Prabang.

It's one of the favourite games played amongst locals in Laos, which of course was at one time, a French colony. They play mostly for beers. I've played a lot of petanque in England and in the North of France, so I had many games with them. They were so surprised to see a tourist playing 'their' game. There was an instant respect from them, and of course returned. We got quite drunk on a few occassions.

After getting to know them and very relaxed in each others company, two of the lads said they'd pick us up from our guest house the next day. They came and picked us up on the backs of their motorbikes and rode us 45minutes away to a dragon boat race festival. It was such an amazing day, a really big gathering and not a tourist in sight. We watched the races, got drunk, were taken to their remote village, and we ate and drank in every home in the village before they rode us home late in the evening on their bikes again as I just tried to forget about the level of alcohol they had in their systems..............
