As part of the country's hosting of the Southeast Asian Games, UAAP has accelerated its schedule of games and will have a triple-header in the men's and women's division at the UAAP Season 82 basketball tournament opening day.
The men’s and women’s tournament will start for the first time on Wednesday-September 4 from the usual weekend where men’s games will be held in the afternoon and in the morning.
Wednesday's games for the men's side will start at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 4:00 pm.
Their venues are at the Araneta Coliseum, SM Mall of Asia Arena, and Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
In the women’s division, the first game starts at 8am in two separate venues and the other game is 10:00 am.
The UST Quadricentennial Pavilion, Araneta Coliseum, SM Mall of Asia Arena, and Ynares Center in Antipolo will serve as venues for the women’s tournament.
On opening day, the University of Santo Tomas and the University of the East will host the first match of the men's division at the Araneta Coliseum, followed by the closing of Far Eastern University and the University of the Philippines ahead of the Ateneo de Manila and Adamson clashes.
The first clash with archeneurs Ateneo and La Salle for the first round will take place on September 8 at the Araneta Coliseum while the Finals rematch between Ateneo and UP will conclude the first round on September 29 at the same venue.
Meanwhile, the finals rematch in the women’s division between the National University Lady Bulldogs and FEU Lady Tamaraws will take place on September 25.
Although I am not a fan of UAAP, this move by them is necessary since few months from SEA Games are about to start. I’m a bit excited for this years SEA Games. Hopefully our country would bag many medals.
