England became the world champions for the first time after defeating New Zealand after a thrilling contest. In reply to the target of 242 runs for the Kiwi team, the English team made 241 runs in the stipulated 50 overs.

The English team needed 15 runs in the last over but Kiwi bowler Trent Bolt did not allow any runs on the opening two balls.

After which the English batsman Stokes returned the match with a brilliant tasting on the next ball, taking 2 runs off the fourth ball gave the English team 6 runs and the hopes of New Zealand fans were shattered. However, Adil Rashid was run out in the attempt to take 2 runs off the fifth ball.

Stokes and Butler came in to play for England in the Super over, which gave them a target of 16 runs. Once again, the English team was declared the winner on the basis of more boundaries in the match.

Ben Stokes was named player of the match for his outstanding performance while New Zealand captain Ken Williamson was given the Player of the Tournament award.

The winner of the World Cup Cricket Tournament will receive a prize money of $ 4 million while the losing team will be entitled to $ 2 million.
