My kids were put off more by the uniform.
I have mentioned this school before in a post a long time ago. It is what they call a Blue Blood school. It is private and the fees are worked out ob what you can afford. You sit down with your paycheck and they help you with your budget and they top up the shortfall.

This is a different class of school to your run of the mill schools as they offer everything under the sun for a kid to develop. Yes you dress up like a monk and your mates will make fun of you,but you are at the best school that there is.
Only one generation from a family can go to the school as their thinking is they have given you the tools to succeed in life and you shouldn't be looking at them again unless it is a donation. The school is run on wealthy old boys topping up the coffers regularly and a high percentage of these guys and girls do make it.
I was in two minds to send my kids there and looking back now I was an idiot and should have just done it. At the time the kids were horrified that I was going to dress them up in a choir boy outfit and see them on the weekends. The school is a weekly border so you spend Monday to Thursday at school and come home on Friday. I believe if you have kids they stay at home and never believed in the border type education.
The reason for the post is what they offer as sporting extras. The facilities were fantastic when I refereed there and had the normal like Rugby, Football and Cricket. but the ones that caught my eye were Golf,Show Jumping and Archery.Plus they had a fully kitted out pub run by the older kids for the parents and teachers. The school encourages sport so if a student shows an interest in a various sport that they don't have they will encourage it by getting coaches. They had a big push a few years ago with golf and had a driving range and a 9 hole golf course. Unfortunately I see that facility has disappeared now.
I look at the schools my kids ended up at and they did miss out. Maybe not my daughter as she is a little clueless when it comes to sport, but my son definitely did. His school had limited facilities and only had 3 fields for 900 kids. I was fortunate that the school I went to catered for everything besides the normal stuff you would expect there was shooting, mountain climbing (we had our own mountain 10 minutes away) white river kayaking, rowing, surfing, judo and underwater hockey(club).
I doubt if those are on offer now as it is down to the teachers as it is their extra time that they put in and the specialist sports would most likely have disappeared totally. This is the reality now as unless a teacher has an interest in that sport then it isn't a love, but a chore.
True.."unless a teacher has an interest in that sport"-- but it is not just for the case of sports, rather everything else in which the teacher must have an interest first before imbibing those interest in a student.

Working in a public school district I personally feel that too much focus is put on sports these days and not enough on why we are all actually supposed to be here. Now, before you string me up, you need to understand that I love sports and I think that being involved in sports is a good thing for students. It helps them become well rounded, good problem solvers, and socially adjusted. Where I have the problems is when the administration(s) and communities place so much focus on sports that academic things fall by the wayside.
