Baker Mayfield has a BIG mouth!

in sportstalk •  5 years ago

A 56-year-old ex-coach whose only success came on the backs of HOF defenders before driving two different organizations into the ground took a cheap shot at a 24-year-old quarterback and the story is Baker's comeback comment?

Criticism is warranted the way Baker and the Cleveland offense as a whole is playing, but Rex's comment was lazy at best and falls well short of any sort of insight. Mayfield is certainly not playing to his potential, but where is 'overrated' coming from? A few bad games against good defenses vs his body of work(college and NFL) coming into the season?

If anything(anyone) has been overrated, its Freddie Kitchens and his ability to execute with this offense. He's been incapable of using the talent on the team and to adjusting to the game(and his weak offensive line). Calling a draw play on 4th and nine sums up his season so far.

Does Baker deserve criticism-yes, but pinning the problems with Cleveland solely on him and calling him overrated is beyond lazy.

And Rex really doesn't matter. Him and his brother were the epitome of NFL nepotism. It took way too many years and way too many failures before they finally got bounced from the league. Rex is best known for his mouth. I'm glad Baker was able to shut it down.

I respect your opinion. I'm not even a fan of anyone in the Ryan family....BUT....these guys are not dumb and they are not stupid. Even if they had hall of fame players you still must organize and game plan to win. Baker has had one decent season and his mouth and attitude has followed him from his antics at the University of Kansas all the way to the NFL. In my opinion, Baker is not entitled to say jack shit to anyone wearing a superbowl ring until he at the very least wins the division. don't get it twisted, I am a big Mayfield fan and i want to see him succeed. I hope to see some Mahomes/Mayfield playoff drama very soon. I flew to Oklahoma his senior year (never been there before) just to watch him play. Fact is Baker has under performed on the field and over performed with his mouth in my opinion. When your a young player, you just need to take it in stride and prove them wrong. Thanks for taking the time to comment to my post, it means a lot to me.

I get it. I just think players like Mayfield already have that hot-head designator. Anything to add to that narrative and people jump all over it. It's barely a blip if a lot of players say something similar especially in response to Ryan. Mayfield's part of it, but no one including Chubb is doing much of anything on that offense. A lot of that has to fall on Kitchens. It's Mike McCoy level incompetence given who is on the field. It's also important to note that TEN, LAR, and even NYJ have decent defenses. I bet Mayfield(and the CLE offense) bounce back sooner than later. Rex Ryan and his brother might not be stupid(very questionable), but I wouldn't give them too much credit. They tended to fail teams absent the Baltimore defense that was loaded with HOFers.
