Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is leading the 2019/2020 Golden Boot award for European league goals.

The official website of the Bundesliga has highlighted Lewandowski's numbers this season, and the possibility of his success in kidnapping the Golden Shoe, becoming the first player in the Bundesliga to win since Gerd Mueller, the legend of Bayern, in 1972.

The 31-year-old started the season with an exceptional scoring record, becoming the first player to score in all 11 Bundesliga rounds, reaching 16 goals so far.

Lewandowski boosted his chances early to win the Bundesliga's top scorer award for the fifth and third consecutive years, as well as the possibility of winning the European Golden Shoe for the first time in his career.

Lewandowski leads the Golden Boot with 32 points, having scored 16 goals in the Bundesliga, ahead of Estonia's Flora Tallinn's Eric Sorja, who has 26 points after scoring 29 goals.

Lazio striker Ciro Immobili is third on 26 points with 13 goals so far in Calcio.

Only two of the top five European leagues - Lewandowski and Emobili - are in the top 5, while Leipzig's Timo Werner is in sixth place with 22 points, scoring 11 goals.

Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, or Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus star, is not in the top 10, with the Argentine only scoring eight goals in La Liga, while Ronaldo has scored five goals in Calcio.

The Golden Boot has not been out of the Primera Liga in the last 12 years, except for one season that saw Luis Suarez join Ronaldo in the award, when he was a player in Liverpool, while the Portuguese was at Real Madrid.
