Liverpool defender Virgil van Dyck has expressed his satisfaction with the second place in the final ranking of the Golden Ball presented by the French Football magazine for the best player in the world, behind Argentine star Lionel Messi.
"I was close to the prize, but with a player like Messi it's hard to win," Van Dyck said at the ceremony in Paris. "I never thought about fighting for these awards. I'm proud to be here."
"It was a wonderful year, and I am very proud of what I have achieved with Liverpool and the Netherlands.
