New Zealand captain Ken Williamson became the captain of the ICC World Cup in a tournament as the captain of the most runs. Williamson played 30 balls before being caught behind Liam Plunkett's wicket in the final.

In the final match played against England on Sunday, Williamson broke the record of former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene, who scored 548 runs in the 2007 World Cup, when he scored his first run. In this list, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is third in the 2007 World Cup with 539 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar's record of making the highest runs in a tournament could not be broken by any batsman. To break this 16-year-old record, Ken Williamson was to make 126 runs in the final match, but he could not do so. Sachin had scored 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup, and this record still remains. Indian batsman Rohit Sharma went close to breaking the record, but in the current World Cup lost in the semi-finals, Rohit Sharma scored 648 runs with 5 centuries. He was away from breaking this record by just 25 runs.
