With an increasing population and limited opportunities worldwide, most job seekers are resolving to dubious ways in order to have an edge over their counterparts. Fake resumés or partially truthful ones are costing employers a lot of resources. With so many people looking for jobs, employers have to shortlist before interviewing a set number of their best candidates. Part of this process will include validating whether the resumés submitted have accurate information. Statistics show that over have of resumés submitted contain inaccurate data which justifies the need to verify this data by employers. They have to confirm with various institutions starting from schools to former employers mentioned in different resumés. This is however set to change with the introduction of SpringRole which uses blockchain technology to help both employers and employees have an easier time while seeking or giving employment.
Practical challenges
SpringRole have been observing the challenges that employers and employees have been facing over the years which inspired them to come up with their innovative platform. Employers took a lot of time investigating which slowed down the growth and development of their companies and institutions. Employers normally have to confirm with past universities or colleges whether their applicant actually attended the mentioned university because forgeries are easier to do nowadays with the level of technology available. After confirming the university, the skills also have to be confirmed because buying of degrees and certificates is also common especially in countries where corruption is rampant. Employers seek confirmation from the applicant’s former employers. They also have to confirm whether these applicants actually worked in the mentioned areas. Its such a resource consuming endeavor which may cripple many of the activities going on in an organization.
Applicants also have it tough. Employers normally demand original documentation, mostly in physical form because digital manipulation is easy to do. Sometimes these documents are misplaced by some of the staff in these organizations. Getting them back may take a lot of time as they try to trace them. These documents may include official government documents which are hard to get or university certificates which also take a lot of time to replace. Furthermore, the stress that may result from losing these documents may be disastrous to the mental health of applicants. Having a system that can take care of both applicants and employers would greatly improve the employment sector.

Building a reputable reputation system

Reputation systems are online platforms where attestations can be confirmed by employers. They are resource saving as they drastically reduce the time employers need to shortlist candidates. They also save on the frictional costs that would have been incurred during the confirmation processes. The only danger that reputation systems pose at this time is their lack of credibility. There is no concrete way of proving the data provided there is factual. There are measures provided but they can be easily by passed. SpringRole wants to improve on the short comings of existing reputation platforms through the use of blockchain technology which will allow the platform to run transparently, securely and in a trustworthy manner. SpringRole wants to achieve, through its platform, a system where employers and employees turn to for their employment needs.
Closing the loopholes
This will start right from signing up with the platform. SpringRole’s platform will include attestors who will function as the reference point for claims made in resumés. These attestors will include universities, lecturers, professor, companies, course providers and individuals who hold credibility in a particular field. When these entities sign up for the platform, they will have to use a KYC system that confirms their identity, profession and positions they hold. Ensuring the credibility of attestors is the most important aspect of SpringRole’s platform as they are the ones who will either confirm or deny applicants’ claims. Those working in various institutions can sign up to the platform using the institutions’ email address which will hold more credibility that public addresses. By ensuring credible attestors, SpringRole would have closed a major loophole that has been plaguing reputation platforms.

The other need for the KYC forms is to prevent any fraudulent activities from taking place in the SpringRole platform. Companies would have to register and confirm their credibility to prevent false job advertising and identity theft.
Those seeking employment through SpringRole will also have to register using their emails and provide their identifications as confirmed through KYC forms.

Different entities will provide different types of attestations which include the following,
• Skill endorsement. This is to confirm that the applicant is proficient in a particular type of skills stated in their resumé. To prevent bias towards a particular applicant, skill attestation in the platform will come at a cost. Furthermore, the applicant has an option of accepting or rejecting the skill endorsement made. The endorser’s reputation will also be held into account in case of anything. The endorser is also to state the level of the applicant’s proficiency in that skill. Skill endorsement can be done by institutions the applicant has previously worked in or by a reputable professional in that field of work or even some professors and lecturers can attest to the proficiency of this applicant in the mentioned skill.
• Educational qualification attestation. Educational qualifications can only be attested by universities that will have registered in the Springrole platform. It would make work easier for both universities and employers as they would remove all the tedious processes of attestation by having a few simple, sure, secure and trustworthy steps in their platform. For the applicant, this would mean that they only have to submit an original digital copy of their documents as the university can confirm through their records whether the certificate is legitimate or not. This would reduce and deter any planned fraud using the SpringRole system.
• Additional course attestations. With the digital revolution came digital learning and online universities which offer great programs that require little or no supervision. All learners have to do is register and meet the standards set by these institutions. They include online platforms such as Coursera which equips learners with a number of skills and even provides a certificate once the course is completed. These too will be accommodated in the SpringRole platform attesting whenever their institutions are mentioned as course providers. This would also increase the credibility of online course providers since most employers have to yet warmed up to the extra services they provide for learners in various fields. They mostly deal with providing extra skills on top of those learnt in traditional universities.
• Other attestations. There are those skills that are usually provided by freelancers who have expertise in unconventional work areas. These skills can be attested to by companies they have previously worked for or individuals they have worked for as well. This broadens the scope of SpringRole supporting even freelancers in their trade.
Having different types of attestations makes it far much easier for companies and individuals to know who to contact when applying for a job or when seeking employees.

With capable verifying abilities, SpringRole is building itself as more than just an attestation platform. It has the ability to act as a job posting platform as well. It could be easier to get employees from the platform as SpringRole will host a number of different professionals and freelancers on their platform. Furthermore, employers will have confidence in employees registered on SpringRole as they will have passed certain criteria needed for employment. It would also take an easier time for employers to shortlist candidates as well.
Potential employees will benefit by being among the first to be notified about new openings in various organizations. The legitimacy of these openings will never be in question as these organizations have to fulfill certain requirements in order to be hosted in SpringRole. Freelancing opportunities will also be easier to come by using the SpringRole platform.
The other potential benefit is the preservation of original documents. Owners can have their documents in a physical form while institutions provide digital ones which can be used in the SpringRole platform. This would prevent unnecessary loss or misplacement of these documents.
Universities may also use this platform as a way of confirming the learning history of applicants who want to further their studies in carious fields. SpringRole has this potential due to its attestation ability which can be used beyond vouching for job opportunities.
