She was young, smart, agile, and happy. The young Indonesian female gymnast star was still relaxed when facing the upcoming Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, even though many people had a big hope that Rifda Irfanaluthfi would win a gold medal in the biggest Asian sport event.

But she didn't have certain target. "Me, coach, and manager don't determine certain target. I just want to give the best," said Rifda, as quoted in Koran Tempo.[1]

Rifda Irfanaluthfi was a rising star in gymnastic. She was born in Jakarta, October 16, 1999. At SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia, she managed to bring home the gold medal for Indonesia through the branch of artistic gymnast beam balance numbers (beam). Previously at the SEA Games 2015 in Singapore, she won a silver medal in the branch of gymnastics floor.[2]

Her career was bright but it was not easy to reach. She has started his career as an athlete from the age of 6. At the beginning, she had not entered athletic school yet. She should move from one school to another during elementary school because of her tigh training schedule.

"Every year I change school," she said. "If it's an afternoon practice, I entered morning school. Next year if I get morning practice, I moved to afternoon school." Total she entered 6 schools to finish elementary school. "Initially in private school, SDN 03, SDN 05, madrasah, back to SDN 03, and final year at SDN 09."[3]

She started attending Athletes School in Ragunan, Jakarta in 2011. Her mother, Yuli S. Andriana, was a teacher at the school. Now she did'n need to move to another school.

Rifda made many achievements since the beginning. She won two gold medals at Youth National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional Reamaja) in 2014. A year later, she made her international debut in gymnastics competition in Doha, Qatar. Unfortunately, she did not qualify for the final round. In the same year, Rifda participated in Southeast Asian Games 2015 in Singapore and brought a silver medal home. And then she competed in Southeast Asian Games 2017 in Malaysia. She won gold medal for balance beam, the only Indonesian medal for gymnast at the competition.

Rifda was currently studying in Faculty of Sport Science, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. To pay for her study, she relied on her money as an athlete.

The large number of training and preparation schedules towards Asian Games 2018 led her to take one semester leave. She was ready to compete but it was not easy because her knee injury was still in recovery phase. She admitted too that the preparation was less than she needed. So why she didn't want to burden herself with high target.[4]
