Mario Kempes has expressed his ultimate interest in taking up the managerial job with Argentina national team if by any reason the current coach Jorge Sampaoli get sacked.
Sampaoli still retains his deal with the country till 2022 but found his future in questions following his unexpected "poor" performance in the ongoing Russia 2018 World Cup.
"It is not an easy task as people find it to be, to put the whole responsibilities of a nation on your head while the whole country watch the outcome of your tactics as a coach. Nevertheless, I wish to coach the Argentina national team." Kempes told ESPN.
Argentina struggled to qualify out of Group D behind Croatia who had 7 points. The south American team had their last match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria getting through in a 2-1 victory courtesy of Marcos Rojo's late goal.
The score line was not in their favour in round of 16 as Sampaoli's men got thrown out against France.
