Terry O’Connor, a Sky Sports rugby league analyst has stated that a worthy successor to former head coach of the Wigan Warriors, Shaun Wane would be Shaun Edwards who he described as a “born-winner”.

The end of the season will see Wane step down from the position. He is expected to move onto join the Scottish Rugby Union where he will serve as the high performance coach as soon as all commitments to Wigan are over.

Ian Lenagan, owner of Wigan Warriors has also stated that Edwards remains one of the coaches who fans would be happy to see coaching the club.

Edwards once captained the club and currently is under contract until the end of the 2019 World Cup in Japan with the Welsh Rugby Union.

O’Connor however believes that he is the perfect man to handle the job role once he can accept to move back to the team.

He added that Edwards remain the most decorated player ever for Wigan and if he is to return to the club as a coach, he will be on his toes to ensure that everything is in place.
