The Arsenal forward had a very serious injury in the game against Sporting Lisbon and had to be stretchered off the field of play. It’s an injury that could prove very serious as the player later required oxygen to breathe.
It is situations like this that makes you see the risk players put themselves in and it would in some way justify the amount of money they are paid.
Welbeck clashed with Bruno Gaspar in the 29th minute of the game when both players had gone for an aerial duel and collided with their heads. Danny Welbeck fell with a thud on his ankles and had to be stretchered off and replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang.
It was Welbeck who scored the winning goal in the previous meeting between both teams for the reverse fixture. The player could now face weeks outside of the first team until he recuperates from his injury.
Though the game ended with a stalemate, Arsenal has progressed to the next round of the competition.
Unai Emery would be cursing his luck though and we can only wish the player a speedy recovery.
