Taking A Look At The Clever Design Decisions of @steemmonster Legendary Cards and Why They Are A Great Investment

in spt •  5 years ago

We all generally have an idea about what a "Good" "Something" is. It's not perfect. But it is in the general direction. If a car is a terrible design/engineering project, most people can see it immediately. The real expertise is for going from the general direction to bull's eye. I'll open the article with a quote from a great piece of writing from @alexander.alexis:

Learn From Successes; Not From Scratch

Recently I came across a very good moment to show the beauty of this lesson while instilling more confidence in @steemmonsters DAPP. This is what I'm talking about:

Above is part of the result of opening two Booster Packs. The Legendary Card you are looking at is worth $12.63 and I only paid a $1.71 for the entire Booster Pack (bought from STEEM-Engine) I play Gold League and another thing to notice is that beyond Bronze League, the card is not badass.

Time For Stats

A max level Javelin Thrower is worth as much as a single Spirit of The Forest. But at the start, the Legendary Card is more powerful. Then the Rare and even Common ones become more extremely competent. Then you have some extremely valuable ability for leveling up the Legendary Card. This is game design at its finest.

  • Getting a Legendary early is extremely rewarding.
  • More Packs/Orbs/Rewards(Quests) you get, the more likely you are to get a Legendary or encounter an opponent with a Legendary card.
  • Leveled Up Common/Rare Can Make up for lack of Legendary Cards. Things do't look Pay 2 Win.
  • Level 1 Legendary Cards are mostly useless in Gold League.
  • Level 2 & Level 4 Jumps are the most rewarding.
  • There is a massive incentive to grab 2 more Legendary Cards of the same monster/summoner right after getting the first card.
  • There is also a considerable incentive to get 6 more Legendary Cards to reach Level 4

This is Great for Market Value

It's the smart choices like this that makes me trust the future of a project. Every right incentive adds up to build a large ecosystem while creating price floors. All of these cards used to e much less valuable few months ago. Your money was truly better off on some virtual cards than some stocks or bonds. You are also seeing the birth of a game that is being well designed. These are the bull's eyes I talked about.

You can have you entertainment and you can review products. But you can also learn from them on how to do things right. If you feel in the gut that a product is doing something clever, then there is probably something very right about it.

Every day I'm impressed by the brilliant way the devs have addressed and pre-empted issues.
The way the cards and strategies all work together. The way the incentives align. Even the degree of luck involved is clearly deliberate.

And it's the game running on Ethereum that is actually getting millions of funding. Just look at what we already have here merely through crowdfunding and it's a working product. I don't know any other game that even offer any decentralized tournaments.

I liked the example you picked about the chicken,it happend numerous of times knowing something but can't explain how or why. It's a pain if that happens when you having a discussion.Following your gut isn't inherentlybad it can be a good thing but there is the possibility you're just feeding the biases you have and saying it's a gut feeling.I recently took a keen interested in dapp apps and their uses.

One thing I've known about guts/instincts is that the only way to get make them work (awaken) more frequently and improve accuracy is to use them over and over again and follow it with an evaluation of results. Coincidentally that is similar to a method used by AI developers

Another something from the side of martial arts:

As for DAPPs, we are going to have a lot related to STEEM. Here are few I'm trying:
https://steemhunt.com
https://dlike.io
https://steemmonsters.com
https://nextcolony.io
https://drugwars.io
Make sure to check out https://steem-engine.com

The first video of the martial ,I'm going to try it ,I had some setsback when I asked someone to do that against me.It could be fun and a benificial exercise. The Bruce Lee video reminded me of this:

speaking of dapps
I know couple of them like steemhunt ,dlike and partiko
I like partiko for the fact that it has such a nice design. I gave the others ones a look
they turned out to be games. For a while I was perplexed why blockhain and gaming could be a thing what kind of problem is it solving? steemmonsters home page gave some neat applications for it.I also have checked steam engine ,I'm quite intrigued of the uses of it.

The biggest and most immediate use of blockchain for the games is user owned and user traded assets for MMO/Collectible Games. For an example you can trade @steemmonsters cards like you would trade physical Pokemon cards. You 100% own your assets. Imagine playing an MMO for a while and having the ability to sell your in game items in an open market for real $$$

I make at least a good $0.25 everyday playing @steemmonsters for 20-30 minutes everyday. When I win a Legendary Card or Gold Card, the numbers get much higher.
