China Thinks Big (CTB) China Thinks Big (CTB) Innovation Research Challenge is the largest online competition for Chinese teenagers with the largest number of applicants from world-renowned schools . The competition is hosted by the Sino-US International Exchange and Cooperation Agency of Harvard University, and co-organized by key domestic universities such as Tsinghua University and Fudan University.
The challenge adheres to the tradition of Harvard University's classic academic program "Harvard Thinks Big" , hoping to introduce Harvard University's culture and spirit of encouraging innovation, action and change to Chinese high school students. The CTB Challenge aims to provide a platform for Chinese high school students around the world to work as a team, to delve into thinking, or to conduct academic research or explore social innovation proposals or display artistic creations. Demonstrate the unique way of thinking and innovative ability of contemporary Chinese high school students.
These winning teams have a lot to say after a six-month competition:
Six Little Bright Bay Squad
The research topic of our team is the issue of education equality for the children of migrant workers. We started from scratch - from searching for advance research to visiting migrant workers' gathering places, from discussing the Do Small framework again and again to publishing each issue of the public account, from making a summary report to modifying the logic map to five in the morning... ...Actually, after calming down, we were not very surprised that the team could get such a result, because we have been thinking about how to make the project better for four months, and it has never been stagnant. We learned a lot in CTB, such as how to communicate with the outside world, how to initiate crowdfunding, how to build the connection between Think Big and Do Small, and how to describe the entire project in just two minutes... The whole process We are both excited and distressed, and every day is an intense and fulfilling day. So the most important thing in the whole process is to persevere, believe that what you are doing is meaningful and work hard for it. Efforts may not necessarily lead to results, but if you don't work hard you will achieve nothing. This is the direction that everyone has identified from the beginning.
CTB is not only a game to show itself, but also a chance for everyone to realize their value. We hope to receive more suggestions in the North American competition to improve our lighthouse project in Liuxiao Liangwan, and look forward to more people participating in CTB. " Set up your mind for the world, set up your destiny for the life of the people, set up a legacy for the sages, and open up peace for all generations. " We believe that as long as we can make a little change for the issues we are concerned about in this process, we will be successful.

Squad 42
We still did it!
That was the only thought I had as the captain of Squad 42 when I heard the host read out the last team for the first prize. To put it humiliatingly, what I was thinking at the time was: " This time I can go out and see things from foreigners. "
Just as I was writing this, I looked at the folders on my computer desktop, school stuff and three years of writing as a sci-fi writer took up one-third of the screen, while the other two-thirds were densely packed. They are all kinds of documents such as reports, weekly tasks, speeches, data and other documents accumulated by the CTB competition for so long. These things are followed by the names of the team members. When the cursor moves between them one by one, the editor's column jumps with different words. I am relieved to see that every team member's name is in it.
42 From the classic series "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by science fiction writer Douglas Adams, there is still a computer on a planet that has been forgotten for tens of millions of years at the edge of the galaxy, calculating over and over again that " life, the universe and everything else ". the answer ” , getting that simple result over and over.
" Why 42? "
" Six times seven. "
Before I took this step, I really didn't know how strong we were and what we could achieve, because even the homework in the labor skills class in junior high school made me think " how is this possible? "
We are really a group of the most ordinary high school students with grade points hovering around 4. Girls like to watch handsome guys and Korean dramas. Boys like to play basketball and watch anime. But we did something that we couldn't imagine before. Just like in "A Place Farther Than the Universe" in January, four female high school students went to the South Pole with the scientific expedition team at the most impossible age.
After coming out of the awards ceremony at Peking University last night, we immediately asked everyone in the group about their intention to go abroad. What I received was seven " yes " . Professor Li Chenjian, who spoke at the award ceremony, said that if you really like the subject and really want to achieve something, then you should overcome everything and do it. For various reasons, I have also thought of giving up, but looking at the things on the table, looking at the awards and trophies, all the efforts have been rewarded the best.
Eight members of this squad will participate in the full schedule in Boston and New York. If I can go to Harvard, of course, it is the best. If I am not strong enough, then I have the right to go to Boston and see the home of my favorite team.
Erudite Squad
During this intense and busy weekend, our team went through a lot of trials and finally won the third prize in the CTB National Finals. Looking back at the past few months, our team of only two people, through unremitting persistence and hard work, finally stood on the field of the national finals. The fast-paced and intense defense gave us a good exercise in expressing skills, and also benefited a lot from the suggestions of the judges. What impressed me even more was the "livepeer review" . In the mutual evaluation of teammates, it is necessary to understand each other's projects in the shortest possible time and question what we do not understand, which makes our thinking quickly become active. The process is always more important than the result, and it is more joyful to gain and improve. Thanks to CTB for giving me the opportunity to hear suggestions and corrections from experts and scholars. If I have the opportunity to go to the United States to participate in the World Finals, I will definitely do my best to do better!
A month later, the two teams will go to the United States to participate in the global finals and roadshows. I hope they will not forget their original aspirations and make persistent efforts. On the international stage, the students of Peking University High School Affiliated High School will be displayed with distinctive personality, full of self-confidence, daring to be responsible , thinking ability, leadership ability and innovation ability.
Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Zhang Yifei, director of the Growth and Practice Experience Center, and the 40 Degrees North Latitude Association for their company from the early stage of publicity and planning to the pre-final preview and on-site company. We would also like to thank Mr. Fang Zhou and Mr. Wang Lin who took time out of their busy schedules to serve as judges in the mock competition, and Mr. Li Junzi who competed with the students on the spot! The dedication of all teachers and participating team members has resulted in excellent results in 2018 CTB, which is also the best result since Peking University Affiliated High School participated in CTB!
In this CTB competition, all participating teams from Peking University High School showed excellent teamwork, overcoming difficulties, and made unremitting efforts to solve problems. All teams are the best! I hope that all the students will make persistent efforts and persist in the spirit of "making big ambitions and doing small things". I look forward to everyone's perseverance and more growth in more projects in the future.
