This is my electro-acoustic chair that is performed by sitting and moving in it. The idea is to record the squeaky sound of the chair and then scrub it by rotating/tilting in the chair. To be able to do this, I've designed a system consisting of a contact mic and an accelerometer attached to the Bela. Inside the Bela, there is a Puredata patch constantly recording the sound and receiving the sensor information to manipulate the sound.
The sitter plays the instrument by moving in the chair. Rotation and tilt are two main control signals which are mapped to the sound record/playback engine. The system is standalone - it works with a power bank and a Bluetooth speaker mounted on the chair.
However, I don't think I'm going to continue this project anymore. If this was to be an instrument, it would be very difficult or even impossible to carry to the shows. On the other hand, the system is designed to work as long as the chair makes the squeaks so that's why I didn't want to take a risk by relying on a physical anomaly that can stop someday.
