My dear Steem Friends,
Adam's Peak (2,243 m) is no Everest or Kilimanjaro, but I have to admit that conquering this mountain was a grand achievement. It is the highest mountain in Sri Lanka with a nice temple on top of it.
My friends and I, with little to no sleep, have set off to dominate this peak at 1 a.m. Firstly, we knew little to nothing about the vehicle with which we would be traveling to the mountain. It was an old truck, the type which usually kidnaps you and you're never hear of again, and to think it was just me and 4 other girls, we were quite "iffy" about the whole idea.
Secondly, the road to Adam's Peak was terrible; full of holes, trees and loud Indian music - all of these factors have kept us awake for the next 2 hours, the truck was like a roller coaster - it would toss you from one side to the other, depriving you of any sleep.
When we arrived, with our spirits broken and tiered, we saw Adam's peak.
After gazing upon the mountain, we were determined to climb up to the temple, and watch the sun rise. Now, to understand, the process of climbing up Adam's Peak was not so difficult. However, we are no athletes and we couldn't comprehend how difficult it would be climbing up these damn stairs.
After 3 hours of exhaustion, sweat, and annoyance with all the hagglers, who were ready to swoop down upon exhausted "suckers" to buy their overpriced items , we made it to the top! It was packed - full of people anticipating the sun rise. We had a bit more time, so we took out some food, blankets and......we fell asleep....
Luckily, the sounds of large drums woke us up. The Monks were welcoming the new day - the Sun was rising.
Overall, it was a great trip! I would highly recommend it to everyone, just get better transport, more watter and don't wear a jacket :D
