Disney and Lucasfilm have already announced that David Benioff and D have been entrusted with the Star Wars trilogy. Weiss, authors of The Throne of Swords, will start at Christmas 2022 and will alternate with Avatar in the following years with regard to the releases of Christmas cinema. There is no official information on the content of these films, but according to multiple sources they could be based on the Vecchia Repubblica and the two BioWare video games of the series Knights of the Old Republic released respectively in 2003 and 2004.

To reveal it initially only Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm's president, on the occasion of the Star Wars Celebration in which Star Wars Episode IX was announced: the Ascent of Skywalker, the next movie in the Star Wars saga, and the final chapter of the Skywalker epic to be released on 18 December. Laeta Kalogridis (Alita, Avatar, Shutter Island) would write the script of the new trilogy based on KOTOR, according to more recent rumors.

This video game, particularly appreciated by fans of role-playing games, is set 4,000 years before Yavin's battle (Star Wars Episode IV) and thus does not contain any of the current iconic characters of Star Wars. The player embodies a young soldier on board the republican ship Endar Spire, later found to be Darth Revan. The antagonist of the player is the Sith Lord Darth Malak, assisted by Bastila Shan, one of the expanded universe's most popular fans.

Electronic Arts, the company that owns the Star Wars video game production rights, has prevented BioWare from making KOTOR 3 (BioWare is an EA subsidiary) precisely to avoid interfering with Disney's plans, according to other rumors. In fact, a role-playing of these proportions risks introducing such a quantity of stories into the Star Wars Canon that it can sharply alter the narrative flow that can be transmitted through a film instead.

In the coming years, Disney plans to bring a host of Star Wars-based films to the cinema. Besides the trilogy entrusted to the writers of The Throne of Swords, a second trilogy is in the hands of Rian Johnson, the director of The Last Jedi. In the meantime, Vanity Fair has published the latest pictures from Skywalker's Ascent set, which we are presenting in the next gallery again.
